Painting of a P-47 Thunderbolt by Graham Turner from Osprey book Normandy 1944 Hell Hawks! Ref: GT54B
The railway bridge over the River Seine at Vernon, 7th May 1944.

With one bomb failing to release, the P-47 Thunderbolt 'The Madam' of 1st Lt. John Feltzer is caught in the blast from the bombs dropped by Captain Arlo Henry's preceding Thunderbolt. Showered with masonry and thrown over the bridge, Fetzer managed to regain control of his badly damaged aircraft, jettison the bomb, and return home, where 'The Madam' would receive new wings, tail, engine and supercharger, before going on to fly to the end of the war.
