A Ju 87 Stuka can be seen over Senglea during an attack following the arrival of a convoy in Grand Harbour on 23rd March 1941.

Anti-aircraft gun - Painting by Graham Turner from Osprey book Battle of Malta 1940-42 XHB 8 Ref: GT-381B

The crew of a 3.7in anti-aircraft gun prepare shells during an alert. Their position - known as XHB 8 - on the coast just south-east of Hal Far airfield, was one of the most heavily bombed sites on Malta.

Macchi C.202 - Painting by Graham Turner from Osprey book Battle of Malta 1940-42 Macchi C.202 shot down at Gozo Ref: GT-381C

On 27th July 1942, Macchi C.202 of 378 Squadriglia C.T. was shot down by Canadian Sergeant George 'Screwball' Beurling of 249 Squadron, and its pilot, Sergente Maggiore Faliero Gelli, captured.
