THE QUEEN'S GOLDEN JUBILEE INTERNATIONAL JOUST 2009

Graham Turner returned to the tiltyard at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds over the August bank holiday weekend to take part in the Queen's Golden Jubilee International Joust.

The event marked the debut at this high level of Graham's horse Magic. After two years of training, he had taken part in two low key jousts for Destrier during the season - taking a win at the first - and Graham was delighted with the way he acquitted himself.

The competition was very hard fought and close, and the very deserved victor - only dropping one point over the three days of jousting - was William West. Will is a professional armourer, making armour of the highest quality, and Graham's armour was the first full harness he made having set up his business, the Englyshe Plate Armourie.

Left - Another maximum score for a good shield hit on fellow Destrier member Jason Kingsley, riding his horse Warlord.

Note Graham's new great bascinet helmet with 'frogmouth' jousting visor, made for him by Jeffrey Hedgecock, who was also jousting at this tournament.
