Edmund, Earl of Rutland - Painting by Graham Turner Edmund, Earl of Rutland Ref: GT-RU

The second son of the Duke of York and Cecily Neville, Edmund was born on 17th May 1443. In December 1460, while his elder brother headed west to take his first command, seventeen-year-old Edmund travelled north with his father. He is shown here wearing armour of West European style, over which is his identifying heraldic tabard bearing the royal arms differenced with a label. He is accompanied by a more experienced man at arms wearing a Milanese armour with a bend displaying the Duke of York's fetterlock badge.
