Battle of Cremona, 69 AD - Original painting Ref: GT-ROM1

This painting shows a tragic episode from this Civil War battle as described by Vipstanus Messalla. A recent recruit serving in Legio VII Galbiana fighting for the Flavian pretender Vespasianus, killed an older soldier from Legio XXII loyal to the Emperor Vitellius, only to discover that the older man was his father.
