At the Battle of Poitiers (also known as Tours) in AD 732, Charles Martel's forces defeated the invading Muslim army and halted their advance across Europe.
Trenton and Princeton 1776-77
George Washington's campaign against the British at Trenton and Princeton in 1777 established his reputation as a military commander, restored the flagging morale of the American forces and gave new life to the rebellion. One painting by Graham Turner remains, depicting the battle of Princeton.
